1 * ENAMEL POSTER BOARD
HEADING: CORRIS RAILWAY. 21” x 3”
in brown lettering on cream background in ex-station condition. The line ran from Machynlleth – Aberllefeni
and originally the Corris, Machynlleth & River Dovey Tramway, opened in
1859. The company was renamed in July
1864 and absorbed by the GWR in August 1930.
The line was closed on 1st January 1931. A rare find indeed.
2 * MANCHESTER SHEFFIELD
& LINCOLNSHIRE RAILWAY two-handled silverplate SUGAR BOWL manufactured by Walker & Hall. 7” diameter over handles and 3¾” tall. Ornate engraved coat-of-arms on side. Good condition.
3 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE
WORKSPLATE: “LMS BUILT 1876 DERBY” as carried by the ex-MR Johnson 0-6-0
1142 class loco numbered 1242 built by Neilson Works No. 2102 in 1876. Rebuilt in 1892 and renumbered in 1907 to
3010 which it retained after grouping.
Became LMS 23010 in 1947 class 2F and BR 58182 in November 1950. Allocated to Aston and Sutton Oak in the
1950s before spells at Rugby, Barrow, and finally Bedford from where it was
withdrawn in January 1964. The loco
details are painted on the back. 10½” x 6” in VGC, restored a long time ago.
4 * SHEDPLATE: 37B
COPLEY HILL (LEEDS) (1950 – July 1956, then 56C). A very rare example, seen only twice at
auction, the last time in 2000. Front
painted in primer, the back ex-loco. See also Lot 316.
5 * TOTEM: DARNALL BR(E)
half-flanged dark blue with fine deep colour if a little matt. No chips to face, edge rusting restored
only. An ex-GCR station opened by the
Sheffield & Lincolnshire Junction Railway as Darnal in 1849, renamed by
1887 by the MS&LR. VGC generally, a
highly desirable and rare Sheffield area totem seen at auction only twice
previously, the last time in 1998.
6 * BRASS FACED Tyers SINGLE LINE TABLET: DERSINGHAM – SNETTISHAM
27 from the ex-GER Kings Lynn – Hunstanton branch. The token section ceased to exist on 5th March 1967
when the two signal boxes were reduced to non-block posts, although the
Hunstanton branch was not closed until 5th May 1969. Dersingham
signal box was a GER Type 7 design opened in 1891 fitted with a 25 lever frame.
Snettisham signal box was a GER Type 2 design opened in 1880 fitted with
an 18 lever frame.

7 * GWR CAST-IRON SIGNALBOX
NAMEBOARD: NEWTOWN EAST SIGNAL BOX from the Great Western Railway Type 7 signal
box located to the East of Cardiff General station on the South Wales main
line.
78” x 9” restored front in white lettering and edging on a black
background, the back untouched.
8 * BRASS 9” x 5” LOCOMOTIVE
WORKSPLATE: “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 8226 Rebuilt Stratford
Works 1919” as carried by ex-GER 0-6-0 class “S59” loco No. 1226 built at
Stratford in 1906. Rebuilt in June 1919
and became LNER 8226 in June 1924, class “J17.” Renumbered LNER 5576 in April 1946 and BR 65576 in August
1948. A long time March loco, it spent
two months at Cambridge in 1962 before moving back to March from where
withdrawn in the August. Cleaned and
polished front, ex-loco back.
9 * CARRIAGE PRINT: CROWLAND
LINCOLNSHIRE by Kenneth Steel from the LNER post-war series 1948-1955. A street scene with ancient overbridge as
the central theme. VGC and in an
original type glazed wooden frame.
10 * TOTEM: WINDERMERE BR(M) half-flanged maroon with deep colour and
shine. Restored edge rusting only, no face
chips and VGC overall. An ex-LNWR
station opened in April 1847. The
station was re-sited in 1986 and is the
terminus of the branch from Oxenholme.
11 * CAST-IRON NOTICE: “GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY (IRELAND).” Each word cast in a separate piece and
when joined together form an arch. 41½”
x 3½” in original condition, all four parts are presently screwed to a wooden
backboard. Thought to have originated
from a footbridge (location unknown).
12 * FLETCHER’S SYSTEM type LNWR SIGNAL
REPEATER. Tombstone shaped, 10”
high x 5” wide x 4” deep, brass faced with circular glass fronted dial showing
red signal arm and “Wrong” and “Out” indications. Front stamped “Signal Repeater Fletcher’s System L&NWRy Tele
Dept Stockport No. 1626.” Good
condition.
13 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “BUILT BY AND ON LOAN TO London North
Eastern Railway Co. 1944 Darlington Works No. 1941” as carried by the Stanier
2-8-0 built at Darlington in October 1944, on loan from new to the LNER as
class “O6” No. 8506, transferred to the
LMS in January 1947 as class 8F No. 8506.
Renumbered 48506 by BR. A long
time Cheshire area loco at Northwich Sutton Oak and Speke before spending time
at Willesden and Northampton in 1962-1965, finally going north again and
withdrawal in March 1968 from Rose Grove.
Cut up by John Cashmore at Great Bridge. Engraved, oval 13½” x 8” front lightly polished, the back
ex-loco. A rare example with the
wording left completely untouched. See
also Lot 321.
14 * CALEDONIAN RAILWAY ENAMEL SIGN: NOTICE AS TO TRESPASS Pursuant to
the Caledonian Railway Act 1898 (plus 13 lines of text), Glasgow 1st
August 1898, John Blackburn Secretary.
Manufactured by “Falkirk Iron.”
17” x 22½” a rare survivor with a little edge rusting and some expertly
repaired chips, but excellent colour and shine.
15 * TOTEM: MACHYNLLETH BR(W) half-flanged chocolate and cream with deep
colour and shine. VGC with restored
edge rusting only. An ex-Cambrian
Railways station opened in 1863 between Caersws and Dovey Junction.
16 * SHEDPLATE: 54B TYNE DOCK (1950 – October 1958, then
52H). A scarce example, rarely seen at
auction. Front restored, back in
ex-loco condition. See also Lot 128.
17 * ALUMINIUM single line KEY
TOKEN: LLANDILO – FFAIRFACH from the GWR & LNWR Joint Line in Carmarthenshire. Traces of blue paint. This ceased to be a token section in March
1966 when Ffairfach Box (an GWR structure opened in 1935) was reduced to a gate
box.
18 * SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 63700 (with curly top “6”) as carried by the
ex-GCR “8K” class 2-8-0 loco No. 1192 built by Kitson Works No. 4900 in August
1912. Became LNER class “O4/1” in 1923
and renumbered 6192 in April 1927, 3539 in August 1946, 3700 in February 1947
and finally BR 63700 in January 1949. A
long time Gorton engine. Withdrawn in
December 1960 and cut up there. Totally
unrestored ex-loco condition.
19 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “SOCIETA ITALIANA ENESTO BREDA Per Costruzioni Meccaniche N. 2236-Mailano
(Italia) 1928” from the South African Railways 3 ft 6 in gauge 4-8-2 class 15CA
Class locomotive No. 2801. Rectangular,
15⅛” x 7⅞” in ex-loco condition.
20 * LNER “HORSESHOE” ENAMEL LAMP TABLET: ALNMOUTH double-sided in black
lettering on white in VGC with minor edge rusting only. Complete with original hanging
brackets. 14¼” diameter. Once the junction for Alnwick and adjacent
to the Northumberland coast, the station opened by the Newcastle & Berwick
Railway in July 1847, was originally named Bilton. It was renamed on 2nd May 1892, the name it still
retains today.
21 * GWR BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 1644 as carried by (GWR) 0-6-0PT
“1600” class loco built at Swindon in April 1951 to Lot 389. A long time Llanelly engine. Withdrawn in October 1959 and cut up at
Swindon Works in February 1961.
Restored to VGC front only, the back cleaned.
22 * ENAMEL DIRECTION SIGN: SOUTHERN RAILWAY GOODS DEPOT with left
pointing three-flight arrow. In SR
green with white lettering, the white arrow most attractively black edged. There has been a little professional
restoration to the arrow, but VGC overall.
28” x 13” mounted in a wooden frame.
Original location unknown.
23 * USA RAILROAD BUCKEYE three-note chime brass LOCOMOTIVE WHISTLE. 14” to
top of finial with side arm lever (re-attached with modern bolt). Good condition.
24 * CAST-IRON LOCOMOTIVE TENDERPLATE: “BEYER, PEACOCK & Co. Ld 6816
Manchester, 1936” from the LNER 0-6-0 class J39/1 loco No. 1540 ex-works
October 1936. Renumbered 4919 in May
1946 and 64919 by BR in February 1950.
Withdrawn in December 1962 from Low Moor and cut up at Darlington. Beyer Peacock fitted identical builders
plates on locos and tenders, the tenderplates being of cast-iron, the locos
brass. Oval, 9¾” x 5¾” restored front a
long time ago, back ex-loco.
25 * BRASS INDUSTRIAL LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: ADAMS as carried by standard
gauge Ministry of Munitions Georgetown Paisley outside cylinder 0-6-0ST No. 1
built by Andrew Barclay, Caledonia Works, Kilmarnock in 1915 works No.
1408. Sold to Synthetic Ammonia &
Nitrates Ltd, Billingham, in 1925, becoming No. 46 “Don.” Sold c.1932 to S. Pearson Contractors
working on the Silent Valley Reservoir, Co. Down, where it appears to have been
named “Adams.” In 1934 the loco was again
sold to Priestmans, Whitehaven Collieries, Shotley Parks where it was renamed
“Shotley Park” which name it retained until 1960. Taken into NCB stock at Nationalisation eventually being
transferred to Ladysmith Pit, Whitehaven.
Scrapped in July 1965. 22½” x 6”
in ex-loco condition.
26 * SOMERSET & DORSET JOINT RAILWAY small pattern MR style
three-aspect HANDLAMP. Body and reducing cone both brass plated
“Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway 446.”
Body also brass plated “Relief Porter Christopher” and stamped
“S&DJR.” Looped brass top
handle. All glasses intact and complete
with reservoir, burner and reflector.
Good unrestored condition.
27 * SHEDPLATE: 81C SOUTHALL (1950 – January 1966). A scarce example, not frequently seen at
auction in ex-loco condition.
28 * CARRIAGE PRINT: SWANAGE by Donald Maxwell from the SR Original series
(1936). Extremely rare, never seen at
auction previously, a location closely associated with the preserved branch
line from Wareham. In an original type
glazed wooden frame and titled mount.
VGC with minor marks on mount only.
29 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “W.G. BAGNALL Ltd Engineers Stafford,
England No. 2651 as carried by the outside cylinder 0-6-0ST ex works September
1940 and new to ROF Queniborough as “ROF IO No. 2.” In 1946 it was sold to
Desford Coal Co. Ltd. and de-named. Taken
into NCB stock on 1st January 1947.
In 1948 transferred to Ellistown Colliery and c.1959 to Nailstone
Colliery. Scrapped by Wm. Bush Ltd. of
Alfreton in 1963. 8” x 5½” in good
ex-loco condition.
30 * LMS HAWKSEYE ALUMINIUM STATION SIGN: GREAT GLEN. An ex-MR station between
Leicester and Market Harborough opened in January 1897 closed in June
1951. 48” x 18” front restored to VGC
in red and white, the back appears to have been varnished.
31 * BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS 838 16CR from the
3 ft 6 in gauge 4-6-2 loco built NBL 22732 in 1921 as class 16C, reboilered to
class 16 CR in the 1930s. Oval,
20⅝” x 14½” face restored a long time ago, back ex-loco condition.
32 * GN & GE JOINT RAILWAY CAST-IRON BRIDGE RESTRICTION NOTICE: MOTOR
CAR ACTS 1896 AND 1906 (18 lines of text).
Diamond shaped, 24” x 36” to the points, the smaller version. Very good ex-bridge condition with tonnage
plates intact and in place.
33 * LNER silverplate ICE BUCKET
manufactured by Walker & Hall. 6”
diameter x 6” high with “LNER” initials in a script design incised on
side. Good condition.
34 * BRASS 9” x 5” WORKSPLATE: “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 60805
Darlington Works 1937” as carried by the LNER V2 class 2-6-2 No. 4776 built at
Darlington as the first of the Darlington batch. It entered traffic on 16th July 1937, becoming LNER
805 in August 1946 and BR 60805 in November 1948. Latterly a Gateshead, Heaton and York engine it was withdrawn on
23rd December 1963 and cut up at Darlington. Ex-loco condition.
35 * TOTEM:
SETTLE
BR(M) fully-flanged maroon, in VGC with deep colour and shine. Basically ex-station condition with some
edge rusting, but no chips. One of
the best examples to be found. An ex-MR Settle & Carlisle line station
opened in 1876.
36 * CARRIAGE PRINT: FINCHINGFIELD, ESSEX by F. Donald Blake from the
LNER post-war series 1948-1955. A view
of thatched cottages with wooden windmill in the background. Finchingfield, frequently winner of the
annual Essex “Best Kept Village Award,” is north of Dunmow and was served by
Bishops Stortford – Braintree trains until 1952. In VGC and in an original type glazed wooden frame.
37 * SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 73121 as carried by the BR Standard class 5MT
4-6-0 loco built at Doncaster in January 1956 to Lot 404. Its first allocation was Corkerhill from
where it was also withdrawn in February 1966 and cut up by P.& W. McLellan,
Langloan. Restored front and back to
good condition.
38 * GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY 12” dial wooden DROPCASE CLOCK complete with its ivorine label “GWR 3861,” the dial
with bold lettering “GWR” and Roman numerals.
Reputedly from Tavistock South station which opened in June 1859 and
closed 31st December 1962.
Comes with pendulum, replacement key and we understand is in full
working order. A fabulous clock, a full
28” from top to bottom.
39 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Coy. Ltd.
Hyde Park Works Glasgow 1942 No. 24793” as carried by the LMS Stanier class 8F
2-8-0 loco No. 8209. Renumbered 48209
by BR. Latterly a Canklow and Staveley
engine it was withdrawn in April 1964 and cut up at Crewe Works. Circular 7¾” diameter, ex-loco condition.
40 * TOTEM: SCARBOROUGH CENTRAL BR(NE) half-flanged tangerine in
excellent condition with deep colour and shine. Edge rusting restored. The word “Central” appears in the lower
panel. An ex-NER station opened in July
1845. A choice example.
LOTS 41-47: PULLMAN CAR ITEMS

41 * PULLMAN CAR HIGH BACKED ARMCHAIR from a first class or possibly
composite parlour car in “The Brighton
Belle” which ran from London Victoria – Brighton and vice versa from January
1933 – April 1972, arguably the most famous Pullman train. The armchair shows the
typical finish of the electric stock with a smooth tapered arm/leg which were
notably different from steam type cars. Covered in a brown coloured moquette, 27”
wide, 30” deep and 46” high and in fine original condition.
42 * PULLMAN CAR WOODEN PLAQUE: CAR OCTAVIA 9” diameter white-painted wooden plaque with
gold-leaf transfer showing the Pullman coat-of-arms and the car name
from the 1st Class Kitchen car ‘Octavia’ of 1924. The plaque was
installed in the 1950s when the bulkhead clock it replaced
was removed. “Octavia”
was used extensively on the Eastern Services, including the “Queen of Scots”
and “Yorkshire Pullman” – ultimately to the Southern on the “Bournemouth Belle.”
It was withdrawn in 1965 and subsequently sold to a scrap merchant in
Manchester. In good ex-vehicle condition except for a repaired
split with slight loss at the top, probably caused when the plaque was removed
from the car. A very nice item
nevertheless.
43 * WOODEN CARRIAGE BOARD: SOUTH WALES PULLMAN in chocolate brown with
yellow letters. The 8-car train usually
hauled by a “Castle” class 4-6-0 operated between Paddington – Swansea and vice
versa commencing in the summer of 1955, until replaced by the diesel-electric
“Blue Pullmans” which were introduced to the service in 1961. A very manageable 60” x 5” in very good
ex-train condition. Rare.
44 * PULLMAN CAR BRASS TABLE LAMP with
round base 5¼” in diameter and turned stem leading up to bulb housing with
support for shade (not present) ending in a thistle shaped finial at the
top. Stands 19½” high. No identity of car shown, but is of the
pattern used in 12-wheeler third class cars from 1920 and often in “K” type
Pullmans (1926 vintage). The lamp is in very good condition and has been wired
for 240v AC operation (tested and working).
45 * PULLMAN CAR COMPANY original gold leaf COAT OF ARMS mounted on chocolate painted and framed 18” x 16½”
board in excellent condition. In all probability mounted on the
board by Pullman Company Preston Park employees, when the works there were
closing down c.1964
46 * PULLMAN CAR HIGH BACKED ARMCHAIR with fluted back and scroll arm
from a 1920s first class steam hauled parlour car (identity unknown). 27½” wide, 27” deep and 44” high, the legs
have been shortened to accommodate casters.
Covered in light blue upholstery and in good condition.
47 * PULLMAN CAR WOODEN PLAQUE: ZENA. A 9” diameter mahogany wood plaque with
gold-leaf transfer showing the Pullman coat-of-arms and the car name. From the first class parlour car “Zena” of
1929. Used initially on
the “Torquay Pullman” and “Ocean Liner Expresses” and other SR services.
Post-war used on the “Tees Tyne”, “Yorkshire” and “Queen of Scots” Pullmans.
Withdrawn in 1966 and sold for preservation. Now used on the VSOE. Unusual since the name is not prefixed with
the word “car” there being only two other known examples.

48 * BR(M) ENAMEL SIGNALBOX NAMEBOARD: BEESTON STATION. Fully-flanged maroon in excellent condition
with very minor edge rusting only. 66”
x 12”. Beeston Station signal box was a
Midland Railway Type 2 design located between Trent and Nottingham. It opened
on 20th September 1891 and closed on 7th December 1969 when Trent power
signal box took over the signalling of Nottingham station and its western
approaches..
49 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY Co. No.
1597 Doncaster 1924” as carried by the (GNR) Class J23 0-6-0T ex works in May
1924 as LNER 3239 Class J50/2.
Renumbered 8938 in June 1946 and BR 68938 in August 1949. Allocated to and withdrawn from Ardsley in
October 1959. The numbers “3239” and
“8939” have been stamped in the back by the works to assist
identification. Engraved oval,
13⅜” x 7⅝” the front lightly polished, back ex-loco.
50 * LMS LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: GIGGLESWICK being the left-hand plate
from the “Patriot” class 5XP-6P 4-6-0 loco numbered 6000. Reconstructed at Crewe Works No. 109 in July
1933 to Lot 95 and renumbered 5538 in 1934.
The loco was named “Giggleswick” on 4th November 1938 at
Settle station, after the public school nearby. Renumbered BR 45538 in 1948.
Latterly a Willesden and Nuneaton engine, it was withdrawn in September
1962 and cut up at Crewe Works. 34½”
long, basically ex-loco condition, except that the original red has been
repainted black.

1933. Renumbered 1764 in June 1946 and BR 61764 in January
1949. Allocated to Eastfield Glasgow
from where it was withdrawn in September 1961 and cut up at Cowlairs. Ex-loco condition.

Coronation class 7P-8P 4-6-2 Pacific loco 6238 “CITY OF CARLISLE” built at Crewe in August 1939 to Lot 150 with
double-chimney, streamlined and outshopped in red and gold livery. The streamlining was removed in 1947. Became BR 46238 in 1948. A long time Carlisle Upperby engine. Withdrawn in September 1964 and cut up by
West of Scotland Shipbreaking Co., Troon in December the same year. Front only restored a long time ago.
74 * CARRIAGE PRINT: THE CINQUE PORT OF NEW ROMNEY, KENT by Jack
Merriott from the Southern Region Series (A) issued in 1952. A view of a sailing barge at a mooring on
the river with ancient bridge and old buildings beyond. A size A 23½” x 7½” print in a glazed
ebonised wooden frame, the print in VGC.
Rare.
75 * BRASS INDUSTRIAL LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: CLEMENT as carried by the
Doncaster Amalgamated Collieries, Brodsworth Colliery No. 34. An 0-6-0 inside cylinder loco built by
Hunslet Engine Co. Leeds, Works No. 1983 in 1940. The loco was taken into NCB stock at Nationalisation 1st
January 1947. Dismantled in 1969. 26¼” x 6½” the face lightly polished only,
ex-loco back.
76 * RHYMNEY RAILWAY POCKET WATCH manufactured by Seth Thomas. The rear is engraved “Rhymney Railway No. 27
1881.” VGC and appears to be in good working order and is presented in a wooden
box.
77 * HULL BARNSLEY & WEST RIDING JUNCTION RAILWAY & DOCK COMPANY
CAST-IRON NOTICE: “PUBLIC WARNING –
Persons are Warned Not to Trespass on The Railway etc. …. (total of 5 lines of text). George Scaum Secretary.” 28” x 17” in ex-lineside condition. The company opened its line on 20th July
1885, re-titled Hull & Barnsley Railway in June 1905, amalgamated into NER
prior to grouping 1st January 1922. 28” x 17” in ex-lineside condition.
78 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “ANDREW BARCLAY SONS & Co. Ltd.
Engineers Kilmarnock. N.B. No. 748 1894” as carried by outside cylinder 0-4-0ST
loco named “NORI” when new to
Accrington Brick & Tile Co. Ltd., Nori Brickworks. Rebuilt by Andrew Barclay in 1947 as Works
No. 9430. In August 1962 the loco was
transferred to NCB Huncoat Colliery, Accrington (and de-named) as part share of
the assets when A.B. & T. closed.
The loco was never used by NCB and was derelict by March 1963. Eventually scrapped c.1965. An early pattern plate 18⅝” x 7¾” with
scalloped corners in ex-loco condition.

From the ex-GCR line near Chesterfield.
Possibly an LNER issue in ex-section condition.
80 * TOTEM: BLACKBURN BR(M) fully-flanged maroon with deep colour and
shine, but with a number of small face chips in need of repair. Restoration to the edges and back has
already been carried out. An
ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway station opened in 1846. A scarce totem not seen at auction since
2003.
81 * SHEDPLATE: 9A LONGSIGHT (Until February 1965, then diesel
depot). Restored front and back a long
time ago. The home to many named
locomotives over the years.
82 * LB&SCR large size three-aspect HANDLAMP. The reducing cone
is steel plated “Mr Firbank P’Way Dept.” the body brass plated LB&SCR Co
(in full) and is also steel plated “Mr Firbank P’Way Dept. T. Wells &
E’Bourne L.” It is also brass plated
“Ridsdale & Co. Minories London” and stamped “LBSCR 8.80.” Reservoir stamped LB&SCR with SR
burner. Good condition. Lots of history in an old lamp.
83 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “THE VULCAN FOUNDRY (Limited)
Newton-le-Willows Lancashire No. 3893, 1926” from the East African Railways
2-8-2 loco No. 2502 (ex Tanganyika (TR) 207 of class MK. Oval 9” x 5¼” in ex-loco condition.
84 * GWR CAST-IRON CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 6147 as carried by the GWR
2-6-2T Prairie “6100” class loco built at Swindon in January 1933 to Lot
278. Allocated to Southall, St Philips Marsh,
Barrow Road and Exeter before ending its days at Worcester from where it was
withdrawn in December 1965 and cut up by John Cashmore, Newport. Restored front only, ex-loco back.
85 * SR “WEST COUNTRY” CLASS CREST from the Bulleid designed 4-6-2 Pacific
loco numbered 21C115 and named “EXMOUTH”
when built at Brighton in November 1945.
Later renumbered 34015 by BR in April 1948. Allocated to Exmouth Junction for a long time, before a final
trip to Salisbury. Remained in
streamlined form throughout the loco’s career.
Withdrawn in April 1967 and cut up at Cashmore’s, Newport. A colourful device in enamel with brass
edging featuring a castle atop a floral design with knights head armour, shield
with twin anchors and scroll “Mare-Dita Flores Decorant” (the coat-of-arms of
the town of Exmouth). Mounted on a
board with a brief history and in VGC with minimal surface scratching at one
edge.
86 * SR BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WHISTLE as carried by a “Schools Class”
loco. 9½” high mounted on a wooden
plinth. From an SR class “V” 4-4-0 loco
designed by R.E.L. Maunsell, built at Eastleigh and introduced into service
from 1930, the class numbered 40 in total.
They lasted well into BR days.
Good condition.
87 * GWR HOTELS ceramic BUTTER
DISH manufactured by Meakin. Leaf
pattern design with glazed “GWR Hotels” roundel in black on white. 5½” diameter with carrying lip, three minor
chips (two on top, one in base), good otherwise.
88 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “BORSIG LOKOMOTIV-WERKE Henningsdorf–Berlin
F.No. 14747 1938” from the South African Railways 3ft 6 in gauge 4-8-2 Loco No. 2696 class 19D. Rectangular, 11¾” x 7” in ex-loco condition,
but one corner missing.
89 * SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 31684 as carried by the ex-SE&CR 0-6-0
class “C” loco No. 684 built by Neilson Reid Works No. 5690 in June 1900. Became SR A684 and later 1684. Renumbered 31684 by BR. A Gillingham and Tonbridge allocation until
withdrawn October 1961 and cut up at Ashford Works. Restored front and back some time ago.
90 * TOTEM: EVERCREECH JUNCTION BR(W) fully flanged chocolate and cream
in virtually mint condition with excellent colour and shine. A station between Bath and Templecombe, once
the junction for the Highbridge branch,
on the long gone and much lamented Somerset & Dorset Joint Line closed in
March 1966. A highly-prized totem, only
seen once before at an internet auction and has been number one in the “Best
Seller” list since June 2003.
91 * GWR HOTELS two-pint silverplate TEAPOT manufactured by Elkington.
7” tall with “GWR Hotels” in roundel design stamped into the side
(slightly rubbed). Good condition.
92 * GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY 1913 three-aspect HANDLAMP the reducing cone stamped “GNR 18351 A 5/13” also stamped
“GNR18351” in the body. The reducing
cone is also brass plated “For Petroleum Only”. The base is painted “GNR Engineers Dep. No. 7 Gang
Midville.” Brass lens cone and brass
rimmed bevel-edged glass. All internal
glasses intact and complete with unmarked reservoir, burner and reflector. VGC.
Midville first station on the line from Little Steeping – Woodhall
Junction, opened as late as 1913, closed between 1915 – 1923, reopened by the
LNER and closed finally on 5th October 1970.
93 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “MANNING WARDLE Leeds 1900 No. 1512”
by as carried by the Moira Colliery Co 0-4-0ST outside cylinder loco named
“NEW CHURCH GRESLEY” built by Manning Wardle in 1900, but rebuilt
at Moira in 1934 (see lot 301 in the June
2006 auction). Transferred to NCB
ownership in January 1947 and scrapped there in 1952. Oval, 11” x 6⅛” in good ex loco condition.
94 * BR(S) fully-flanged enamel DOORPLATE:
STATION MASTER in green with good colour and shine. 18” x
6⅛” basically ex-station condition with a couple of edge chips
only.
95 * SR ENAMEL TARGET STATION SIGN: SWANLEY. 29”
x 13” in ex-station condition with edge
rusting and a couple of chips, but good
colour and shine. An ex-SE&CR Kent
station opened in 1939, having replaced the LC&DR station at Swanley
Junction to the east opened in July 1862.
96 * RHYMNEY RAILWAY CAST-IRON BRIDGEPLATE: MAINLINE 66. Oval, 13” x 11” front restored in black
figures, letters and rim, the back to
primer. Operating between Cardiff –
Rhymney and branches, the railway enjoyed an independent existence from opening
in February 1858 until grouping into the GWR on 1 January 1922.
97 * GWR CAST-IRON CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 5193 as carried by the GWR 2-6-2T 5101 class loco built at Swindon in
October 1934 to Lot No. 284. Allocated
to Laira, St Blazey, Neyland and finally Severn Tunnel Junction from where it
was withdrawn in June 1962. Now
preserved at Steamtown Carnforth having been rescued from Barry. Restored front and back a long time ago.
98 * BRASS 9” x 5” LOCOMOTIVE TENDERPLATE: “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 7293 Darlington Works 1944 as carried by 4,200 gallon tender built for 4-6-0 “B1” class loco 8307 “BLACKBUCK” built at Darlington Works No. 1927 in March 1944. Renumbered 1006 in January 1946 and 61006 by BR in January 1949. Latterly a Lincoln engine withdrawn from there in September 1963 and cut up by R.A. King at Norwich. Ex-loco condition.
99 * GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY ADVERTISING ENAMEL: SEE YOUR OWN COUNTRY FIRST
– There is a Great Similarity Between Cornwall and Italy in Shape, Climate and
Natural Beauties. Shows maps of
Cornwall and Italy for comparison also young ladies in traditional
costumes. 19” x 15” highly coloured
with a couple of face chips and a major bend with loss of enamel in the bottom
left-hand corner, but good overall.
100 * GWR LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: CHAFFINCH together with matching BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 3443 as
carried by the GWR “3300 “Bulldog” Class” 4-4-0 loco built at Swindon in May
1909 Works No. 2352 to Lot 177, the running number originally 3733. Superheater fitted in 1911 and renumbered
3443 in 1912. Piston valves were fitted
in 1921. The loco was withdrawn in May
1949, having spent the last few years as station pilot at Taunton (a black and
white photo, kindly donated by one of our subscribers, of the loco undertaking
these duties accompanies) . Both plates
have been professionally restored in unlined black, the livery in which the
loco was withdrawn from service, ex-loco backs. The nameplate is 71” long.
A rare opportunity to acquire a pair of plates of such good quality from
this class.
101 * STEEL single line KEY TOKEN:
CARNO – TALERDDIG with the section name on attached metal plate. From the ex-Cambrian Railways Moat Lane
Junction – Machynlleth line. This token section ceased to exist in the mid to late 1960s
when Carno signal box was reduced to a non-block post. Well used condition.
102 * SHEDPLATE: 85F BROMSGROVE (From 21C in February 1958 –
January 1961). A very rare example,
seen only twice at auction previously.
Restored front and back, but a 1” section of rim is missing near the
left-hand bolthole.
103 * BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY Ltd. Glasgow 1944 No. 24950” as carried by the WD 2-8-0 “Austerity” loco 78513 ex-works September 1944 and on loan to the LNER from December 1945 until purchased by BR in December 1948.
