Bags and large coats are not allowed in the viewing areas. Many of the items can only be viewed under steward supervision. Other security surveillance will be in place.

LOT     DESCRIPTION

 

1  *       BR (WR) LAMP TABLET: WELSHPOOL in chocolate and cream enamel.  An early example similar  to the GWR type and used prior to the introduction of the standard “totems.”  An ex-Cambrian Railways station opened in 1860.  Good ex-station condition. 

 

2  *       BRASS WORKSPLATE: “W.G. BAGNALL LTD ENGINEERS STAFFORD ENGLAND No. 2934.”  As carried by the GWR 0-6-0 Pannier Tank loco No. 8424.  Ex-works December 1950 to Lot 384.  Withdrawn January 1961 and cut-up by George Cohen’s but location unknown.  Ex-loco condition.

 

3  *       CENTRAL LONDON RAILWAY three-aspect HANDLAMP stamped “EH 113.”  Copper topped reducing cone with brass plate attached “Morden 70.”  Unmarked ornate copper reservoir, burner also unmarked.  Lens cowl around beveled glass.  Small break to red lens.

 

4  *       SILVERPLATE: GWR HOTELS THREE COMPARTMENT BONBON DISH with top handle by Mappin & Webb.  Top displays company name and coat of arms.  7½” x 8½”.

 

5  *       TOTEM: GREAT MALVERN BR (WR) chocolate and cream, fully flanged, in VGC with deep colour and shine.  An ex-Worcester & Hereford station opened in 1860.  A scarce totem seen only once in auction previously.

 

6  *       EAST & WEST JUNCTION STRATFORD-ON-AVON TOWCESTER AND MIDLAND JUNCTION RAILWAY CAST IRON SIGN: “Motor Car Acts 1896 and 1903 – Notice – This Bridge Insuff-icient……” with 8 lines of text.  At some point, the “E&W Junc” and “Towcester” lettering has been partially ground off, but this has been painted in as part of the restoration of the sign some time ago.  16½” x 12” with scalloped corners.

 

7  *       CARRIAGE PRINT: YARM, YORKSHIRE by S.R. Badmin from the LNER post-war series.  A view of the road and rail bridges dominating the village.  In an original type glazed frame.

 

8          BRASS WORKSPLATE: GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY BUILDERS, Gorton Works, 1912.  Oval 9¾” x 5⅜” polished and repainted.

 

9  *       NER Tyers permissive single dial sloping front BLOCK INSTRUMENT with its original brass plate engraved ”Down Line.”  With side plunger in good, original condition.

 

10 *      SNCF ALLOY CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 231 D 672 as carried by the standard gauge 4-6-2 built by the North British Locomotive Company construction number 21299 in 1916.  Delivered to the ETAT railway as 231-672 class D and to SNCF in 1937. 4-cylinder De Glehn compound, subsequently modified, and some survived up to 1970. Totally ex-loco condition with a very slight hairline crack, traces of red paint on letters and numbers against a black background. 

 

11 *      ALLOY SINGLE LINE KEY TOKEN: GOONBARROW JCN – ST DENIS JCN  in the heart of the Cornish clay mining area on the Par – Newquay line.  Partly painted green.  VGC.

 

12 *      GNR STATION LAMP: HUBBERTS BRIDGE with station name clearly appearing in black on white glass in the opening aperture.  A post-fitting pattern tin frame with all glasses complete.  Inside is a circular burner plated “GNR Hubberts Bridge” and globe (may be a replacement)  Restored in green.  Possibly early LNER vintage.  Hubberts Bridge, originally Hubbard’s Bridge, opened in 1860, is a station on the Sleaford – Boston line in Lincolnshire.

 

13 *      TOTEM: MANCHESTER CENTRAL BR (LMR) maroon, fully flanged, in VGC except for a repaired chip near the letter “C” in “Central.”  A CLC station opened in 1880, closed May 1969.  The first of our “Manchester Trio” today.

 

14         BRASS WORKSPLATE: NEILSON & CO., 4775, Glasgow 1894 as carried by an 0-4-0ST new to William Baird & Co. Ltd., Lugar Ironworks, Old Cumnock.  Rebuit by Barclay Brothers in 1929 and became “Lugar No. 6.”  Sold to NCB on 1st January 1947 at Lugar, but lost its name and became just “No. 4”  The loco worked at various collieries in the area ending up at Lugar Central Workshops in April 1968.  Cut up by Motherwell Machinery & Scrap Co. in August 1969.  Oval 9¾” x 6” face lightly polished.

 

15 *      SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 61120 as carried by the LNER 4-6-0 B1 class loco built by NBL Queens Park Works as No 25876, new to traffic on 22nd January 1947 numbered 1120.  Became BR 61120 in October 1948.  Withdrawn from Retford on 31st January 1965 and cut up by Marples & Gillott of Sheffield.  Totally ex-loco condition with plenty of grime.

 

16 *      BR (E) DOORPLATE: TICKET OFFICE in dark blue with white lettering in ex-station condition.  18” x 3½” text in one line. Reputed to be ex-Kingscliffe station; there is a label on the back, but no name.

 

17         SHEDPLATE: 87C DANYGRAIG (SWANSEA) (1950- January1960).  Ex-loco condition.

 

18 *      GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY 14” dial fusee movement roundhead WALL CLOCK, the only face marking being the “GWR” roundel.  Totally original condition complete with pendulum and key.  A superb item.

 

19         COMMEMORATIVE CHINA MUG issued to commemorate the visit of the Cunard Liner “Mauretania” to the Welsh Coast on August 30th 1909, with text in Welsh.  Green transfer printing showing illustration of the liner just off port.  Manufactured by Hughes of Fenton.  3¼” tall.

 

20         LMS BRASS WORKSPLATE: BUILT 1938 CREWE as carried by the 4-6-2 “Princess Coronation” class loco (4)6246 “City of Manchester.” Oval, 10½” x 6”.  Together with the cast iron tender Water Capacity plate “4,000 Gallons” from the same loco which was built at Crewe in 1943 in streamlined black livery.  The loco was withdrawn on 26th January 1963.  The number “6246” is painted on the back of both plates.  (2)

 

21 *      TOTEM: RIPON BR (NER) tangerine, half flanged.  Minor repair to small chip in letter “P” and edging only, excellent otherwise with deep colour and good shine.  An ex-NER station on the Northallerton – Harrogate line opened in 1848, closed in March 1967.

 

22 *      LMS “HAWKSEYE” ALLOY STATION SIGN: ETTINGTON in ex-station condition, 48” long.  From the ex Stratford-on-Avon & Midland Junction line station between Fenny Compton – Stratford-on-Avon opened in 1973, closed in 1952.

 

23 *      METROPOLITAN & GREAT CENTRAL JOINT COMMITTEE CAST IRON SIGN: “Met & GC Joint.  Trespassers Will Be Prosecuted.  Penalty Forty Shilling or Imprisonment for One Month.”  12¾” x 23½”, scalloped corners.  Restored front and painted back, but obvious signs of originality.

 

24 *      GWR three-aspect HANDLAMP, the body brass plated “6723,” the reducing cone embossed “Reformed Patent GWR.”  A further brass plate is attached to the front with the legend: “Petroleum – Light 10 minutes Before Using.”  Letters “R” = red and “G” = green embossed buttons on either side of reducing cone to signify position of the relative coloured lenses.  The burner is stamped “Reform” with a tapered rear box and false base.  The reservoir is stamped “GWR.”  The letters “GWR” are also etched into the front glass.  An unusual lamp in VGC.

 

25 *      ALLOY LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: EMPRESS OF CANADA CANADIAN PACIFIC STEAM-SHIPS from the BR type 4 1Co-Co1 2,000hp diesel-electric D232 built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry works as number EE2688/D449.  To traffic at Crewe on 14th April 1959, named at Derby without ceremony 17th March 1961.  Renumbered  40032 March 1974 as class 40 in the TOPS renumbering scheme.  Withdrawn from Longsight 1st February 1981 and sent to Swindon for scrapping in April 1981, finally cut-up by 25th April 1983.  Some restoration to the painted part of the nameplate.  The edges are in BR blue, some original green on back.

 

26         LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY BRASS WORKSPLATE: BEYER PEACOCK & CO. LTD. 1908 with attached brass plate 65854 to cover the original number which has been ground off.  An ex-NER 0-6-0 class “P3” loco numbered 1225, built by Beyer Peacock in August 1908 as works No. 5118.  Became LNER 1225 and reclassified J27.  Renumbered 5854 in April 1946 and finally BR 65854 in April 1948.  Withdrawn December 1963.  Restored.

 

27 *      CALEDONIAN RAILWAY original gold leaf COAT OF ARMS on CR blue coloured wooden board.  15” x 17½”.

 

28 *      CARRIAGE PRINT: ROLLESTON-ON-DOVE by Elis Silas from the LMR (A) series 1950.  A fine view of the river and bridge in an ebonised glazed wooden frame. VGC.

 

29 *      TOTEM: THETFORD BR (ER) dark blue, half flanged, professionally restored to VGC.  An ex-GER station on the Ely – Norwich line opened in 1845.  A rare totem seen only once before in auction (1999).

 

 

30 *      SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS brass single language cabside numberplate “2026” with a brass overplate underneath “14CRM” as carried by the 3ft 6in gauge 4-8-2 built by the Montreal Locomotive Works as their 63078 of 1922.  They were a Canadian interpretation with bar frames of the heavy mixed traffic class 14 with a higher axle loading than some similar machines. [C = Canada, M = main line, and R was added when reboilered in the late 1930s]. Out of service by 1982. Ex-loco condition with the usual knocks and scrapes, but with a deeper gouge through “Railways” at base.

 

31         BRASS SINGLE LINE KEY TOKEN: PORTKNOCKIE – PORTESSIE “25” an ex-GNOSR section on the Tillynaught – Elgin line closed in 1968.  Curved triangular end with triangular cutout and dark green background to section names.  VGC.

 

32 *      BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: NASMYTH WILSON & Co. LIMITED No. 1520 1928 Patricroft Manchester as carried by the metre gauge Madras & Southern Mahratta Rly 4-6-2 class YC No. 550, originally No. 414.  In October 1966 the railway became part of India’s South Central Railway.  Triangular 13¾” x 5½” background in cream.  VGC. 

 

33 *      LB&SCR three-aspect HANDLAMP, the body stamped “B890 Lewes” and “LB&SCR,” also bears a brass plate showing railway title in full.  The reducing cone is brass plated S[E]R.  Complete with BR/SR burner and S<B>R reservoir.  Copper lens cone with bevel edged glass.  VGC.

 

34 *      SIGNAL FINIAL 24” high with 16 rounded triangular apertures in the central “ball”, casting number 218, a product of Messrs Stevens & Sons, probably from the Caledonian, NBR or GNSR companies.  Square base with cut corners.  Original condition.

 

35 *      TOTEM: SETTLE BR (LMR) maroon, fully flanged, in VGC with deep colour and shine.  The best example we have seen.  An ex-MR Settle & Carlisle line station opened in 1876.

 

36 *      BRASS WORKSPLATE: NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY LTD No. 23473 Queen’s Park Works, Glasgow, 1926.  Built to Lot 33 and carried by the LMS 0-6-0 class 4 (later 4F) No. 4399.  Became BR 44399 at Nationalisation and withdrawn from Trafford Park in February 1964.  Cut up by  T.W. Ward of Killamarsh.  Diamond cast brass 15” x 6” face lightly polished.

 

37         LNER GLASS TUMBLER with engraved scroll design initials and fluted base.  5¾” high.

 

38         LNER.  SIX WEDGWOOD “CATHEDRAL” PLATES produced by Josiah Wedgwood & Son in the “Catherine” shape circa 1930.  Each is 9” diameter and showing illustrations of Ely, Norwich, Lincoln, York, Durham and Peterborough cathedrals.  The “Durham” example is badly cracked.  (6)

 

39 *      CARRIAGE PRINT: HARDY COUNTRY – STINSFORD by Donald Maxwell from the Southern Railway Original series (1936).  Very rare, the first time at auction, an attractive study of the village by the book illustrator.  In an original type glazed frame.  VGC. 

 

40 *      SCALE PRESENTATION MODEL of 2-6-4 Tank locomotive No. 42147 Built at Derby 1948 in the newly adopted mixed traffic livery of black with grey and red lining and “lion over wheel” logo.  Cast in alloy and standing on bakelite and steel base with an alloy presentation plate on the front.  VGC.

 

41 *      TOTEM: EAST MALLING HALT BR (S) green, fully flanged.  Superb colour and shine.  An ex-SE&CR station opened in 1913 on the line between Otford and Maidstone East in Kent.

 

42         GNR (H&O Joint) three-aspect large pattern HANDLAMP stamped on reducing cone “GNR W4/91” and “13278” and plated “Petroleum.”  Base stamped “GNR 13278” with brass plate “Great Northern Railway Company N. Bridge Gds Halifax 19.”  There is a steel relocation plate “Kimberley Park.”  Newbridge was a station on the Halifax & Ovenden Joint Line.  Integral vessel with LNER burner.  Brass lens cone with bevel edged lens.

 

 

 

 

LOTS 43-45: PULLMAN CAR ITEMS

 

43 *      PULLMAN 1st CLASS ARMCHAIR from SR composite car 'Iris' of 1932.  In light green moquette in excellent condition together with original 'Pullman' antimacassar.  Pullman Composite Car 'Iris' was built by Metropolitan Cammell & Wagon Co at Birmingham in 1932 for the Brighton Electrification. Formed in SR electric unit No. 2016 (later 3016).  A contemporary description states that the car was distinguished by the use of 'very beautiful veneers of rosy tones with enrichments of an English garden.  Richly coloured blossoms on holly were predominant.’  Chair dimensions: 28" x 30" x 45".  'Iris' was withdrawn from service on 18 June 1966 and sold for scrap to A King & Sons Ltd, Norwich.  

 

44 *      PULLMAN CAR SQUARE BASE TABLE LAMP in the ornate Arcadian style of swags and rams heads, complete with matching pink shade.  No car identity noted, but a typical style that was predominant in many Pullmans from 1923.  No base.   Good ex-vehicle condition.

 

45 *      PULLMAN CAR BRASS CASED CLOCK.   A rare brass clock from Third class kitchen car No 8 of 1917.  8½” diameter with satin grey face and unusual Roman numerals and second hand. Glass opens to facilitate winding (no key).  An inscription reading “Third Class 8” can be found around the inside rim of the clock face.  Good ex-car condition and highly sought after, since most clocks had Arabic numerals.  12-wheeled Pullman kitchen car No 8 was built at Longhedge in November 1917 and used principally on South Coast services, including the 'Southern Belle', boat  trains and latterly the "Bournemouth Belle" in the 1950s and early 1960s.  The clock was removed in 1955 and replaced by a plaque.  Car No 8 was withdrawn from service in May 1961 and became "Holiday Coach No. P56".  It was finally broken up in 1968

46 *      SHEDPLATE: 89D OSWESTRY (January 1961 – September 1963, previously 89A, later 6E upon regional boundary changes).  A scarce example.  Repainted both sides.

 

47 *      LSWR three-aspect side door round front HANDLAMP stamped “L&SWR” brass plated “146.”  Base also plated “146” and stamped “561.”  Very early and ornate full company titled brass plate, with over brazed brass clip.  Sloping front reservoir and reflector both stamped “L&SWR,” burner stamped “SR.”

48 *      CHESTER & HOLYHEAD RAILWAY 22mm nickel UNIFORM BUTTON showing the Prince of Wales plumes design surrounded by the company name in full.  Illustrated in Froggatt (Plate 9/15)

 

49 *      MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL RAILWAYS set of six hallmarked nickel silver UNIFORM BUTTONS with company coat of arms surrounded by the company name in full.  25mm diameter and tarnished.  All contained within a padded watch presentation case marked M.S.C. Rly.” Rare.  Illustrated in Froggatt (Plate 50/15).  (7)

50 *      BRASS LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: AGAMEMNON from the ex-LMSR 4-6-0 5XP later 6P “Jubilee” class loco number 5693 built at Crewe in 1936, works number 291. Introduced to traffic in March 1936, named from new.  Renumbered 45693 by BR in August 1948.  Withdrawn December 1962.  A fine example, face polished only and accompanied by the BR receipt for £2 dated 1963.

51 *      BR (ER) D/R poster: ESSEX – See Britain by Train with artwork scene of Moulsham Mill, Chelmsford by Wesson (Ref P1192).  Undated.  Folded, good otherwise.

 

52 *      BR (ScR) D/R poster: ST ANDREWS with colourful artwork showing golf links and hotel and club house in the distance by McIntosh Patrick (Ref B28528).  Undated.  Folded, good otherwise.

 

53 *      RAILWAY EXECUTIVE (LMR) Q/R poster: TROOPING THE COLOUR – See Britain First by Rail – The Colour Picture Painted by the Late Christopher Clark in 1932.  A fine scene of pageantry with horses, guardsmen and bandsmen.  Undated.  Some loss at bottom edge, but good overall and laid on linen.  Rolled.

 

54 *      LONDON TRAMWAYS D/R poster: HAMPTON COURT Change at Shepherd’s Bush, Hammersmith or Wimbledon Stations, with 9-line poem by Thomson.  Colourful artwork of gardens by George Sheringham.  Issued in 1924.  Rolled.  VGC.

 

55 *      GWR, LMS, LNER, SR (BIG FOUR) D/R poster: IN WAR AND PEACE WE SERVE with artwork by Reginald Mayes showing the flags of the allied nations together with representative locos of each of the railway companies (Ref No. 154).  Unusually for a D/R poster, presented in “landscape” format.  Undated.  One or two minor tape repairs, VGC otherwise.  Rolled.

 

56 *      BR (LMR) D/R poster: ISLE OF MAN with colourful artwork by A.J. Wilson showing putting green, boating, sailing and distant cliffs.  Published 1956.  Rolled.  VGC.

 

57 *      BR (ER) poster: EAST COAST LANDMARKS – See Britain by Train with colourful artwork by Frank H. Mason of Orford Ness near Woodbridge Suffolk showing trawler and yachts close to the lighthouse.  Published 1964.  Rolled, VGC.

60 *      GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY D/R poster: GWR MILFORD HAVEN Where the Fish Comes From, with colourful artwork in cartoon style by Hussall showing older sea-going gentleman with young boy holding fish and harbour with fishing boats in background.  Undated.  Felix Pole was GWR General Manager, James C. Ward was Manager, Milford Docks Company at time of publication.  Printed by Weiner Ltd.  VGC except for small blemish at base.

 

61 *      BR (NER) D/R poster: YORKSHIRE with colourful artwork by Jack Merriott of Knaresborough showing viaduct and punts on the river below.  Published 1954 for the USA/Canadian market as witnessed by details of services available from BR offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles  and Toronto.  Rolled, VGC.

 

62 *      RAILWAY EXECUTIVE Q/R poster: CLEAR ROAD AHEAD with artwork showing driver and fireman aboard “Monmouth Castle” by Cuneo (Ref AR1110).  A classic scene. Undated.  Rolled, rather brittle, but good otherwise.

 

63 *      BR (LMR) D/R poster: LLANDUDNO with colourful artwork by Claude Buckle of couple walking along cliff path towards the bay.  Published 1960.  Folded, small pinholes at top, good otherwise.

 

64 *      BR (WR) D/R poster: CARDIGAN BAY RESORTS for Glorious Sea and Country Holidays – Travel by Train, with artwork showing happy touring family against map of the Welsh Coast by Harry Riley (Ref PR129).  Undated. Folded, good otherwise.

 

65 *      GWR, LMS, LNER, SR (BIG FOUR) D/R poster: IN WAR AND PEACE WE SERVE with artwork by Reginald Mayes featuring large “Union Jack” flag over an LMS 4-6-0 hauling an express all in blue livery (No. 573).  Slight foxing above letters at base does not detract.  Undated.  Rolled.

 

66 *      BR (LMR) D/R poster: Morecambe – The Perfect Seaside Resort so Close to The Lake District, with artwork by Lander showing woman with one foot apparently in the Lake District, the other on the sandy beach.  Published in 1956.  Folded, good otherwise.

 

67 *      BR (NER) D/R poster: NORTHUMBERLAND with colourful artwork of the Roman Wall by L.R. Squirrell showing wall, ramblers and sheep with lake in background.  Published in 1955 for the USA/Canadian market as witnessed by details of services available from BR offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles  and Toronto.  Rolled, VGC.

71 *      GNR wooden cased pegging BLOCK INSTRUMENT complete with back box.  Enamel plate “To Slfaford (sic) South.”  Very good original condition.

 

72 *      NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT RAILWAYS BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: AB831 from 3ft 6in gauge 4-6-2 built by NBL, construction number 23189 of 1925. A heavy express passenger design.  Oval 10½” x 16½” in ex-loco condition.

 

73 *      LNWR three-aspect HANDLAMP, the body stamped “Stanley Coaching A16255,” the reducing cone stamped “LNWR.”  Complete with later brass and ceramic burner, reflector and reservoir.  Copper lens cone with beveled glass.  Crack to red sliding glass, VGC otherwise.

 

74 *      STEEL SINGLE LINE KEY TOKEN: LLANIDLOES – MOAT LANE EAST with the section name on polished brass label.  An ex-Cambrian Railways section closed on 31st December 1962.

 

75 *      BRASS LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: ACHOLI from the East African Railways metre gauge 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garratt No. 5012, built Beyer Peacock 6157 in 1927. Delivered as Kenya-Uganda Railways No. 58, of class EC1, their second class of main line Garratt.  Good ex-loco condition.

 

76         BRASS WORKSPLATE: ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS LTD., 7620 Newcastle Works, 1951 as carried by the (GWR) 0-6-0PT “9400” class loco 9469 Lot No. 383 ex-works in March 1952.  Withdrawn in March 1962 and cut up by J. Buttiweg of Newport.  Oval 13” x 8¾” ex-loco condition. 

 

77 *      SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 45197.  An LMS class 5 4-6-0 loco numbered 5197 built by Armstrong Whitworth as No. 1238 of 1935 to Lot 124.  Became BR 45197 upon Nationalisation and withdrawn on 14th January 1967.  Ex-loco condition with plenty of grime.

 

78 *      SHEDPLATE: 52C BLAYDON (1950-March1965).  Ex-loco condition.

 

79 *      HIGHLAND RAILWAY SILVERPLATED SOUP TUREEN with lid, manufactured by Mappin & Webb.  HR company garter stamped on side and lid.  Oval shape, 13” x 9½” and 9” high over handle.

 

80 *      TOTEM: WEM BR (LMR) maroon, fully flanged in VGC with good colour and shine, apart from one repaired chip.  An ex-LNWR station on the Crewe – Shrewsbury line opened in 1858.

 

81 *      BRASS WORKSPLATE: “FRIED KRUPP LOKOMOTIVFABRIK ESSEN F Nr. 3302 1952” from Indonesian State Railways 3ft 6in gauge 2-8-2 of class D52, number D52078. Heavy mixed traffic design based on German practice and used up to the end of steam in 1984.  Rectangular, 14” x 8¾” face polished only.   

 

82         SHEDPLATE: 88G LLANTRISANT (1961-October 1964, previously 86D).  Unrestored.  Rare.

 

83         STEEL SINGLE LINE KEY TOKEN: BLENCOW – PENRUDDOCK “4” a section on the former CK&PR line between Penrith – Cockermouth closed in 1972.  Circular end with square cutout.

 

84         BRASS OIL BOX  from a GWR “Castle Class” loco (identity unknown).  Cast brass,  6½” x 6¾” x 2½” overall with a sloping hinged lid and pipe at the base to take oil to the bearing.  In ex-loco condition.

 

85 *      ENAMEL DOORPLATE: FORWARDING OFFICE (on two lines), BR (M) maroon, fully flanged, 18” x 6”.  A very unusual title.  Some expert restoration to VGC.

 

86         LMS HOTELS LIQUEUR GLASS.  A very dainty 3½” x 1⅛.”  The lettering “LMS G&SW Hotels” is engraved in scroll below leaves and wyvern crest on side.  A minor chip in the rim does not detract.

 

87         SILVERPLATE: LNER FRUIT BOWL clearly engraved with company initials in script.  10½” diameter bowl on pedestal, standing 7” high.  VGC.

 

88         LMS LOCOMOTIVE BRASS BELL-TYPE WHISTLE from the class 4 (later class 5) “Crab” 2-6-0 loco 42751 built at Crewe as Works No. 5742 in June 1927 under Lot 21.  Originally numbered 13051, then 2751 from 1934  and finally BR 42751.  Withdrawn from Gorton in April 1965, it was cut up by the Central Wagon Co., Ince, Wigan in August 1965.  10½” tall in ex-loco condition.

 

89 *      FURNESS RAILWAY “Cavendo Tutus” original gold leaf COAT OF ARMS on appropriately coloured board.  12” x 12”.

 

90         KENYA & UGANDA RAILWAYS AND HARBOURS BRASS MEMORIAL PLAQUE: To “Sir Christian Ludolph Neethling Felling Kt. C.M.G. General Manager 1923-1928 Erected in Memory of a Great Public Servant by All Ranks of the Kenya and Uganda Railways and Harbours Services 1930.”  A head and shoulders relief of the man in cast brass.   15¾” x 28” tombstone shape.  Original condition.

 

91 *      BRASS WORKSPLATE: LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 7554 Rebuilt Stratford, 1928.  As carried by ex-GER class Y14 0-6-0 loco No. 554 built to order A60 in June 1906.  Became LNER 7554 on 17th September 1925 and classified J15.  Received a new boiler in 1928.  Became LNER 5462 in January 1947, BE E5452 in March 1948 and finally 65652 in May 1949.  Withdrawn on 7th December 1959 from Stratford and cut up there.  Oval 9” x 5” face polished.

 

92         SHEDPLATE: 83C EXETER (1950-October 1963).  Some restoration.  Rare.

 

93 *      BRISTOL & EXETER RAILWAY.  A superb and rare BRASS TIPSTAFF topped by a brass crown and clearly engraved “Bristol – Exeter Ry. Bridgwater 1859”  Wooden handle 13½” long.  The Bristol & Exeter Railway was absorbed by the GWR on 1st January 1876.  A very special item in VGC.

 

94         MIDLAND RAILWAY three-aspect HANDLAMP, body stamped “MRCo.,” brass plated “Midland Railway” and stamped “17184B.”  Also stamped with letter “B” in triangle in various places on the body.  Reducing cone stamped “MRCo” and brass plate stamped “B19601.”  Burner stamped “LMS,” the reservoir “MRCo.” 

 

95 *      GWR CAST IRON CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 3735 as carried by the 0-6-0PT “8750” class loco which was the first of batch in lot No. 306, built Swindon and entered traffic in August 1937.  Withdrawn September 1965 and cut up by T.W. Ward Ltd.  Totally unrestored and very rusty with slight loss to rim at one corner, not affecting face.

 

96 *      TYER’S one-wire, three-position, rotary sequence, sloping front BLOCK INSTRUMENT.  No box description noted.

 

97         SE&CR POLICE HELMET BADGE.  Black metal with name in full against a star-burst design with the number “89” in chrome at the centre.  2¾” x 3”.  VGC.
